You Can Jump Higher By Working out Less

Are you serious about your vertical jump training?

Correct practices to increase your vertical jump is very COUNTER INTUITIVE.

Vertical jumping is an explosion caused by the sudden tightening of fast twitch muscle fibers.  Because of this, training to improve jumping is “anaerobic.”  All too often athletes train in a way that trains] mostly their “aerobic” [ability.

What is the difference in training?

Basketball players have been told that long distance running would increase their vertical. This is big mistake. Training with the cross country team can cause your vertical leap to shrink.

Sprinting, like jumping is a much less aerobic exercise.  sprinters] distance running to train for sprinting? NEVER! Then why so often do vertical jump programs have us PACING ourselves during our vertical jump training workouts?

NEVER NEVER NEVER PACE YOURSELF FOR] TRAINING YOUR VERTICAL JUMP!

We have all seen it before. Athletes “running the stairs” or out of breath from doing speed ladder drills. Or maybe get done jumping rope for 20 minutes and your legs are so tired.. you are going to say to yourself, “Now that was a hard workout, certainly that will increase my vertical.”

This is not explosive training, so they are NOT going to see results in explosive moves. I assure you, they will not be satisfied. You must train for explosion and not endurance to increase your vertical jump.

“Explosive” training will not feel right at first.  You won’t get the same burn as training for endurance.  In a few ways training explosion is easier, although it requires a great deal more focus and short term effort.

99% of all athletes [that follow these suggestions incredibly just by decreasing repetition and increasing intensity.

Doesn’t exercising less to get more outcome sound like a winning combination?

Training to Increase Your Vertical Jump

People involved in athletics, particularly basketball, volleyball, soccer, and football, are often interested in finding ways to improve their vertical jump. There are many exercises and programs existing that are specially intended for improving a person’s vertical leap. Before starting any of these programs though, an athlete ought to at least be in fair overall physical shape. Here we go over a few exercises that someone could start with before undertaking a training program. These will help get you started.

Warm Ups
Prior to starting any exercises, you should warm up your muscles. Jog around for ten minutes or run up and down the stairs for a while. It is also a sound idea to stretch your muscles prior to exercising. Warming up before doing exercises helps you develop muscle fibers that are used during the jumping process.

Skipping Rope
Skipping rope is an exercise that should not be overlooked, as it will contribute to improving the strength of your legs. It also promotes maintaining excellent cardiovascular condition. Do this exercise for fifteen to 30 minutes regularly.

Knee Raises
Hold an overhead bar securely, with your arms about shoulder-width apart. Hang from the overhead bar, with your arms fully extended and knees slightly bent. Hold this position and slowly raise your knees towards your chest. Concentrate on contracting your stomach muscles during this process. Hold this position for a few seconds, before lowering your legs towards the floor. Repeat this 5 times.

Knee Bends
One of the best ways to increase the strength of your legs is with knee bends (also know as squats). Stand in an upright position - straight, with chest out and keeping your back tight. Proceed to bend your knees slowly, keeping the back straight. Squat, in a slow motion, as far down as possible. Repeat this process 20 times.

Toe Touches
Stand straight. Bend from the waist while keeping your legs straight. Lower yourself down as far as you can go and try to touch your toes with your fingers. Maintain this stance for a couple seconds. Do this exercise slowly and do not “bounce” while trying to reach your toes. Repeat this thirty times.

Sit-Ups
Sit-ups will help improve your vertical jump. Begin with with your back against the floor, with your knees bent, and your feet flat on the floor. Place you hands behind your head. Now, curl the shoulders off the floor, in a slow movement. Continue to sit up. Try to not “pull” on the back of your head with your hands. Concentrate on your stomach doing the work. Exercises for your midsection are crucial for all physical activity as your ultimate all around strength and flexibility start here. Repeat this exercise 10-20 times.

To get the most out of your vertical jumping exercises, you should think about a vertical jump training program. Check out these Vertical Jump Program Reviews to check which are rated the best and to find more information on Improving Your Vertical Jump.

Can You Increase Your Hang Time?

We have all heard of “Hang Time“, but is it valid? To get directly to the crux, scientific laws manage this, there is no such thing as “hang time”. Some people will maintain that this can’t be - exclaiming how they have seen one player or another hang in the air longer than another. The fact is that no matter what it may seem like, no player can float in the air longer than any other..

Here’s the particulars of what is happening when a basketball player jumps (or any other game where jumping is concerned).

Coming down the court, a player jumps and the laws of physics take over. These laws state that each action has an equal and opposite response. What this means in layman’s terms is that the player pushes against the floor and the floor exerts a force back. This action/reaction makes the player to leave the floor. The more force the player uses while pushing against the floor, the more force the floor exerts back - resulting in the player going higher into the air.

This action is compounded as a player is running while he is jumping. His center of gravity will follow a parabolic path through this process. A persons “center of mass” is situated near their midsection. This means that, if the person were to continue in exactly the same position for the duration of the complete jumping action, his/her midsection (and consequently, whole body) would follow this path. However as a player jumps while running, the center of mass is lifted - and manipulated.

By raising his knees, he’s raising his center of mass relative to his head. He does that on his way up. As he comes back down then, he puts his legs back down. This makes his center of gravity lower. This in effect raises his head in relation to the center of mass. The head does not follow the parabolic path. The head stays at one height.

So what you get is for a fraction of the time in the air, the head stays at the same height, but ,during the whole time the center of mass goes up and down.

In essence, the player’s head is the key to why we believe in hang time.

When one person looks at another, they tend to not look at the middle of their body. We usually concentrate on a person’s head (or at least the upper part of the entire body) . What happens at that second is a bit of an “illusion”, but it really is happening. The head stays in the same place for an abnormally extended time because the person changes his center of mass.

If one person can’t hang in the air longer than another, what is the answer? The only alternative left is that he can JUMP HIGHER! If you can’t increase your hang time then, you have to learn to jump higher! How can you do this? Check out these Vertical Jump Program Reviews for additional information.

Size of a Football Field in US and Canada

What are the dimensions of a football field? Football is a famous sport in America. A lot of the football fields look similar, however, the truth is there are some slight differences among each one of them.

What are the size of a football field for an National Football League game? The fields in an NFL match measures three hundred sixty feet in length or one hundred twenty years by fifty three and one third yards or one hundred sixty feet in width. The zones at the end should be ten yards deep because it is the field’s rear. Thirty yards from the restraining point is the measurement where the benches should be placed.

The numbers for an NFL field be supposed to be six feet tall and four feet should be the measurement for the width. The restraining marks should measure six inches on all sides. The restraining mark is the nearest area in the field where the football player can be. The harsh markings should measure seventy feet and nine inches on the sides. It is eighteen inches in width. The goal post for NFL measures ten feet in length and eighteen feet and six inches in width (read more: Dimensions of a Standard Football Goal).

In a collegiate football games in America, the field dimensions are similar to the professional league. The benches for the teams are also located in between the thirty yard marks and just like in the NFL the length of the filed is one hundred twenty yards or three hundred sixty feet and fifty three yards or one hundred sixty feet in width. Its end zone and numbers have similar measurements as well. The restraining marks too have the same measurement which is 6 inches.

In high school football games in the United States, the harsh markings of the field have the same width to its goal post. The whole filed measures one hundred twenty yards in length with one hundred sixty feet in width. Its deep is also ten feet. The total figure of the end line’s length is six feet. The harsh demarcations are fifty three feet and four inches in width which is a bit bigger than the ones used for NFL and for college football.

In Canada the field they use for their football games has a size of one hundred fifty yards in length or four hundred fifty feet and the width is sixty five yards or one hundred ninety five feet. The end zones measure twenty yards and the harsh demarcations are fifty one feet.

Jets vs Colts AFC Championship Game | History Repeats Itself

The AFC Championship Game and Super Bowl III

This Sunday, the NFC and AFC Championship games will be played to determine who will be going to the Super Bowl. The NFC game will pit the New Orleans Saints against the Minnesota Vikings, and the AFC Championship will also be fascinating, or at least to football geeks like myself. The seemingly unlikely winners and upstart New York Jets are facing off against the Indianapolis Colts, a playoff institution, and it’s tipped as Super Bowl III all over again. It would easily be worth payday loans to watch in person, but I guess I have to settle for the small screen.

Back into the pages of history

When the NFL and AFL merged, AFL teams were considered to be younger and softer than their more established NFL counterparts.  Super Bowl III matched a living legend, and a legend in the making – Baltimore’s (this was before the infamous “Midnight Ride” which took the Colts to Indianapolis) Jonny Unitas, and the Jet’s Joe Namath at quarterback.  The Colts were heavy favorites, though Unitas was at the time the back-up to Earl Morrall (who was no slouch, by any means), and were given an 18 point spread over the Jets.  Namath, fed up with all the talk about how his team was doomed, famously grinned (and holding a cocktail – it was Namath, after all) and declared, “We’re gonna win the game.I guarantee it.”

He was right. The Jets won, beating one of the finest football teams of the time outside of the Green Bay Packers.(Who were at the time a dynasty - it isn’t the Vince Lombardi Trophy for no reason.)  It was considered one of the biggest upsets of all time.

This Upcoming Sunday

This Sunday, Mark Sanchez, a very talented rookie quarterback on a hot streak, is going to walk into Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis to take on the Colts, led by Peyton Manning, easily one of the best quarterbacks of the last 10 years.  The only reason why the Colts lost any games so far was that they stopped caring, as they had already secured a playoff berth, or at least, that’s the way it seems.  Even Namath himself made the connection, and said that the team reminded him of his own run to the Super Bowl, from this article in the Star Ledger.

What is going to be the outcome?

Part of the reason why I love the playoffs is that huge upsets are possible. The point is you never can tell, which is why I don’t make predictions.Who would think that the Giants would have beaten the Patriots several years ago, or that the Cowboys would be so mercilessly humiliated by the Vikings? (Which was amazing to watch.) The AFC Championship Game and NFC Championship games will both be epic, and I would give payday loans to watch in person, but I’ll have to be content with my couch and my TV.

Clemson Upsets Miami In Overtime

The Clemson Tigers used a touchdown pass on their first possession of overtime to upset the Miami Hurricanes 40-37 on Saturday night to cap a back and forth game. Miami kicked a field goal on their first possession of overtime to take the lead, but Clemson responded with a seldom used play on third and 11 to get the victory as quarterback Kyle Parker completed a 27 yard touchdown pass to Jacoby Ford. Clemson improved to 4-3 with the win while Miami slipped to 5-2.

College football betting devotees who backed Clemson as +4 road underdogs eventually cashed their tickets, but they definitely earned their money in a game that saw twelve lead changes and two ties. Clemson improved to 5-2 against the spread with the cover, while Miami dropped to 4-3 against the money. The 77 combined points sailed OVER the posted total of 43. It was only Miami’s second OVER of the season against four UNDER verdicts while Clemson has gone OVER in three of their seven games.

After the game, Jacoby Ford explained his logic for suggesting the surprise play in the huddle:

“We knew this game was going to come down to who made more plays. And we did.”

Miami has a history of winning when their offense is clicking-this loss was only the second in 115 games when the Hurricanes score 37 or more points dating back to’85.

For his part, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is glad this one is over:

“I have a birthday next month and I think I’m going to turn 50 instead of 40. We had to put on Superman capes. We made plenty of mistakes that could have lost us the game, but they played with poise and confidence. We just kept battling.”

CJ Spiller was also a big factor for the Tigers as he set a school record with 310 all purpose yards including a 90 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. He also added 81 yards rushing and 104 yards receiving with a 56 yard touchdown catch.

Clemson QB Parker suggested that last week’s win over Wake Forrest was a turning point for his team:

“I think last week we realized that we could be really good and this week we acted on it. I thought we really got some explosive plays and we played well.”

Miami’s quarterback Jason Harris sounded a different tone in his postgame comments:

“This has to be my toughest loss here. We fought so hard throughout the game as a team and didn’t come out with the victory. We let Clemson outwork us, we turned the ball over too much — little things that made us get to this point.”

Clemson will host FCS foe Coastal Carolina next Saturday before resuming ACC play the following week at home against Florida State. They’ll travel to North Carolina State on November–. Miami plays two of their next three on the road, starting next weekend at Wake Forest. They’ll face the University of Virginia at home the next week before traveling to Chapel Hill for a game against North Carolina on November–.

Coach Youth Soccer: 3 Simple But Effective Training Drills

Coach Youth Soccer

Understand this! To coach youth soccer, it is a challenge to be creative and come up with innovative tips and techniques to train the kids. In teaching soccer, the biggest difficulty is to keep thinking about new ideas that make the training for kids interesting.

Read through some tips below that you can teach youth soccer players. These drills help the kids focus on the game, get good at soccer, and enjoy it to the core.

Employ the players to do dribbling and shooting: This is an easy drill that helps all the players practice at the same time. Have the kid’s line up on the single goal line. Now, spread the balls all over the soccer field. Then, ask the kids to go after the balls and move as if they are attacking the opponent goal post. They should also shoot the ball as soon as they have an opportunity.

This workout helps the kids build their stamina, confidence and also improves their dribbling skills. Since the kids do not have any opposition while they dribble, it also brings out their individual style.

Coaching Youth Soccer

How to pass the ball: Ask the kids to stand in a line at a far-away corner of the field. Start counting till 3 and when you finish, order them to run to you as fast as they can. When they are running for you, they also have to capture the ball from the other player who has the possession of the ball. When you yell stop, the player in possession of the ball must pass it instantly to one of his mates.

To coach youth soccer, these drills are the best tools to teach the kids passing and dribbling. They also learn the art of stealing the ball from other players which is very important.

Touch and Go: A game full of fun that kids just love to play it. The kids should get in two lines distant from the goal post which is less than 40 meters away. And in addition to this, the goalie should guard the goalpost. Place yourself somewhere between the two queues.

Now pass the ball to one of the queues and instruct them to shoot or pass the ball using only one touch. The idea is to translate the ball into a goal. Once the goalie returns the ball, carry on with the practice.

When you’ve got two or more goalkeepers in team, make sure you keep include them in alternating sessions. This sport enables players to perk up their shooting skills through team effort. The goalie also gets to learn the art of keeping the ball away from goalpost.

Keeping the control of the ball: This exercise allows the players to learn to advance with the ball while retaining its control. Get two players so that one plays as attacker and second guards the ball. Now let them both play their roles in the field and the one who succeeds to take over another wins a point.

These are simple techniques to coach youth soccer. You can make your kids perform these as they help them learn along with having loads of fun. If you’re interested in knowing more about such tips, be a part of our youth soccer coaching community.

Starting with the basics is always helpful and practical. This stage will help in inculcating interest in the sport which will provide the basis for their professional growth. Also, getting familiar with the fundamentals of soccer will make them confident and get accustomed to the essentials of the sport.

To teach youth soccer, the first things to do is to do nothing. Yes, be very observant but let the kids be on their own. Try not to arrange things too much or coach loads. Thus, the kids will only have loads to enjoy the game which is imperative.

Offer short and precise feedback to the kids to improve upon themselves. But remember to provide feedback while closing the session and not during it. Remember that they are just kids and so it is important to communicate with them in their language.

Coaching Youth Soccer

Parents are more involved in their kid’s improvement. That’s why, it’s great to engage them form the beginning. This way you’ll be sure that kids remain interested in the sport even when away from the field. It is important for you to confirm accurate understanding and handling of kid’s questions.

Please see that all available communication methods are utilized. Use of email, telephones, and one on one meetings are all suitable as well as valuable methods to communicate. But be careful! It is very important to coach youth soccer by staying in touch with the fellow instructors. It provides an opportunity for the trainers to interact effectively as all of them have a lot of exclusive and important experiences to share.
