Every year I like to make my top 3 picks for NFL sleepers. It’s hard to hit it right, but oh so fun to try. You can count on it, though, every season a team will suddenly appear out of nowhere to be a contender when no-one gave them a chance at the beginning of the season. Arizona last year proves that out.

I keep picking the Bengals every year because they always have the talent to do it. They just haven’t been able to get it together for making a serious run. I still can’t count them out, even though they let me down for the last few years. They just don’t seem to have the ‘want to’ or the killer instinct I would like to see from them.

Carson Palmer as the Bengals quarterback is one of the purest throwers in the league. He’s had some injury problems, and did an excellent job of playing sooner than was expected. But he now has to find the rhythm and get to work. He threw for around 8, 000 yards in the two seasons prior to his injury. So it’s way too early to count him out.

My next pick will have to be Seattle Seahawks. They were one of the most beat-up teams playing last season, and they still showed they have something special. That’s character, and that gets them into my NFL sleeper picks for top 3. As long as they overcome their woes from last season, they could be a team to watch.

One of the woes of last season for the Seahawks was in the defensive department. But they have added a young man named Aaron Curry to re-enforce that area. And on the offensive side, they’ve added a former Bengal stand-out in T. J. Houshmandzada. Between him and John Carlson they will form a very effective attack force for the Seahawks.

My third pick for the top 3 NFL sleeper team picks is Houston. They ended last season with a record of 8-8. This was done amidst defensive woes and a an injury struggling quarterback. But this season they will bolster their defense with their new defensive additions.

The way the defense is going to show up in a big way is through the likes of Brian Cushing, Antonio Smith, Jacques Reeves, and Cato June. These guys are going to change the whole complexion of the Texan defense. If they perform as well as expected, the Houston Texans will be a force to be reckoned with this year.

The Houston Texan offense is able to score on any team in the NFL. They have an attack that to me puts them in contention from the start. Steve Slaton, Andre Johnson, and Owen Daniels with Matt Schaub will head up what I believe to be one of the best offenses going.

There are my top 3 picks for NFL sleepers. There are other teams that could qualify just as well, such as Chicago, or even the Vikings. But for this year, I’m going to stick with these, and root for the Texans as my favorite. Regardless, it’s going to be another exciting and fun season of NFL football.

In 1919, The Chicago Bears. An independent football club, was formed by George Halas. In 1920, the Chicago Bears joined the National Football League (NFL), making their home in Chicago, Illinois. Before the advent of the annual World Championship of Football (now known as the Super Bowl), the Chicago Bears had an impressive showing at Championship games, winning 8 times between 1921 and 1963. The Bears have appeared in two Super Bowls (1985 and 2006) and have won once in 1985. However, the team is consistent in making it into playoff spots having had 24 appearances in playoff games since 1933.

Until 1970, the Chicago Bears called Wrigley Field their home stadium when a new football stadium was built for them, called Soldier Field. A new soldier Field Stadium was erected in 2003, giving the Bears a new place to call home, however during the 202 season they played at Memorial Stadium until the New Soldier field was finished.

More than 30 Chicago Bear’s players have been inducted into the Football Hall of Fame, including head coach Mike Ditka (who also played Tight End in 1961-63). . Some of the more well-known inductees are linebacker Dick Butkus and running back Walter Payton.

The Chicago Bears gained national fame through the parodies performed by the Saturday Night Live television series in the 1980s, commonly repeating ‘Da Bears’ in their skits. Om Feb. 04, 2007, Dolphin Stadium in Florida was host for the 2007 Super Bowl, making this the 9th time the Super Bowl was hosted in the state of Florida since it’s beginning 40 years earlier. Only one other state, Louisiana, has hosted the Super Bowl as many times.

Several NFL records were made at the 2007 super bowl, including many firsts. Because an African-American coached both teams for the first time, the 2007 Super Bowl would see the first time in its history where a Black coach would win the Super Bowl. This also was the first time the super bowl was played on a wet and soggy field, as the rain did not let up all day. The Chicago Bears also made a record first, by scoring within the first minute of the game after Devin Hester made a run back for a touchdown off the opening kick.

Super Bowl 2007 featured the AFC (American Football Conference) champions, the Indianapolis Colts, against the NFC (National Football Conference) champions, the Chicago Bears. This would be the second appearance for both teams, who each won their previous super bowls, The Colts in Super Bowl V (1970), and the Bears in Super Bowl XX (1985).

After gaining 247 yards and 25 out of 38 passes, Peyton Manning was named the 2007 Siper Bowl Most Valuable Player. Peyton Manning’s exceptional 10-year career as a quarterback would finally pay off with this coveted title, his first one.

The first quarter of the 2007 Super Bowl was lively as the Bears took the lead 14-7 over the colts. Because Hester had returned the opening kick to score a 92-yard touchdown, the Colts avoided kicking to him for the rest of the game. By the end of the 2nd quarter, the Bears gained a 2-point advantage over the Colts with the score at 16-14.

Indianapolis kept their lead throughout the remainder of the game as the Bears made several attempts to make their comeback. Two field goals by Indianapolis and one by Chicago would make the score 22-17 (Colts) at the end of the third. Even though the lead was slight, Indianapolis didn’t rest as Hayden made a 56-yard interception that netted the Colts another touchdown and widening the gap at 29-17.

The Bear’s fruitless attempts to close the gap was staved off by Indianapolis’ excellent plays to keep possession of the ball. The 2007 Super Bowl would belong to the Indianapolis Colts, as the Bears last 5 plays netted no score. The Colts received their second and long awaited super bowl trophy.

Detroit’s Ford Field was the host stadium for the 2006 Super Bowl pitting the Pittsburgh Steelers (AFC Champs) against Seattle’s Seahwaks (winner of the NFC playoffs). Super Bowl 2006 was the 40th anniversary of the first World Championship played in 1967. The February 5, 2006 super bowl would have the Steelers seeking their coveted ‘one for the thumb’ as the 5th super bowl ring of their teams career. A feat sought after since their last super bowl appearance in 1980.

The 2006 Super Bowl would be the first appearance at a super bowl for the Seattle Seahawks and the 6th time for the Steelers. Experience in past Super Bowls proved to be an advantage as the Steelers were familiar with the pressures of winning a world championship and avoiding the rookie mistakes, which plagued the Seahawks. Although they scored first late in the 1st quarter, the Seahawks suffered from a few missed opportunities, dropped balls and penalties. It seemed well for Seattle, as the Steelers failed to score until the last few minutes of the first half, when QB Roethlisberger ran a fake pass and scored putting the score at 7 to 3.

The gap widened at 14-3 when willie parker made an amazing 75 yard touchdown, breaking an NFL record. The lead would close in as The Seahawks tight end Jerramy Stevens made a 16-yard touchdown reception bringing the score to 14-10, Steelers.

Wide Receiver Hines Ward and Randle El shut out the Seahawks with a fake reverse play that resulted in a 43 yard TD pass. This put the score at 21-10, Steelers, and pretty much cinched the game for the Steelers, with just a few minutes left in the game, The Seahawks would not be able to close the gap.

The 2006 Super Bowl victory placed the Steelers in a tie with Dallas and San Francisco as the teams that had won the most Super Bowls. Another record at the 2006 Super Bowl was Ben Roethlisberger, being the youngest quarterback to ever win a super bowl at 23 years and 11 months, despite having the lowest quarterback rating (22.6) ever by a Super Bowl winning quarterback.

The 2006 Super Bowl Most Valuable Player award went to wide receiver Hines Ward for completing 123 yards in 5 receptions, this culminated his outstanding regular season and 10 year career.
